Déjà Entendu

A study of contradictions. Lockdown is easing in all sorts of ways, yet a sudden spike in Leicester could mean local lockdowns reinforced. Worrying. I know a couple of people from Leicester who work or used to work (in one case), at the university. That is the University of Leicester and not De Montford by the way, if you know the area and wondered which one.

Also, a couple of weeks ago I was talking to someone I used to work with in Manchester and he told me it was bad there too – although he meant people breaking lockdown.

It makes you wonder. I have heard some say that England has been too lax with lockdown. There is a school of thought that we have relaxed too early and that we have had to do so due to the numbers of people who are flouting the rules. What happens if certain areas are in lockdown and others are not? That might not go down very well.

Lockdown though, I knew I had heard that word before the actual lockdown and I have only just realised where. Pointless! When two or more couples have tied scores at the end of a round they go into lockdown. It is a big thing. There is the chant, “Ooooh, ooooh, ooooh, ooooh, lockdown! Ooooh, ooooh, ooooh, ooooh, lockdown!” And then don’t forget the monks.

I think though when programmes are being made again Pointless may have to have a rethink. I can just see it now.

Richard: “So in normal circumstances we would now be in a lockdown scenario but I think people have had enough of lockdown to last them a lifetime.”

Xander: “You’re right. Let’s have a free for all instead.”

We will see.
